Behaviour Change Communication (BCC)

BCC is a core prevention strategy that uses targeted communication to promote safer sexual behaviours. It addresses the underlying social and personal factors that shape risk-taking, aiming to shift norms and sustain appropriate behaviours across the wider population and among most-at-risk groups.

Most At Risk Populations (MARPs)

Targeted interventions reach groups at elevated risk of HIV and STI transmission, using tailored behaviour-change approaches designed for their specific contexts.

Sustaining Appropriate Behaviours

Prevention is not only about initiating change — it requires strategies that help individuals and communities maintain safer practices over time. The programme integrates ongoing outreach, peer education, and community engagement to reinforce positive norms.

  • Peer-led education and community dialogue to reinforce safer sexual norms.
  • Integration of prevention messaging into cultural and entertainment platforms for sustained visibility.
  • Place-based outreach through PLACE & TCI to maintain presence in high-transmission settings.
  • Annual observances — Safer Sex Week, Regional Testing Day, World AIDS Day — that renew public focus on prevention.
